Did you know?

A brief history of hip hop

The Stereo Boyz have been performing since they were young and have now perfected their art. They contribute a great talent to the world of hip hop and are very good at what they do. For those of you who are new to this genre of music, here is some information about its roots and the way that it has grown into what it is today. This type of culture is primarily made up of rapping, DJing, graffiti and breakdancing. There are also many other elements that have evolved over the years such as slang words and clothing trends. This all means that hip hop has become a way of life for many people, much more than just performance.

While street culture has existed for centuries throughout the world, hip hop is believed to have originated in the Bronx of New York. A man known as Kool Herc is considered to be one of the founders of this genre of music. Many people who like to listen to hip hop while they are hanging out with friends, playing some Partypoker or driving in their cars, will have heard of this man, who began reciting rhymes at house parties. He would talk over a microphone and take part in what later became known as ‘rap’. This trend soon took off, with people liking to dance to these types of beats. House parties with MCs spread throughout Brooklyn and people began to take notice.

From there, the hip hop genre expanded rapidly and reached out to the whole world. It has been evolving ever since its beginnings, having most recently added in elements of jazz and soul with artists like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. Hip hop is likely to keep changing over the years, although hopefully it will always retain its essence.
